The Douglas was developed in collaboration with The Seneca Group and Seattle University to provide on-campus housing for a growing student population. A sleek, modern and healthy building, the four-story mixed-use project holds traditional resident life spaces on the ground floor that revolve around a lush central courtyard and terrace with commercial retail space at the sidewalk. The building exterior is clad in preformed metal and cement panel siding with brick surfacing at-grade. Inspired by refurbished warehouse buildings in the neighborhood, the lobby has polished concrete floors, unpainted steel and reclaimed timber finishes.
The site, a former brownfield, reclaims an urban blight. At the center is a rain garden that will face James Court Woonerf and Park and handle the majority of the building’s roof run off. The stormwater displayed with custom splash blocks and runnels. Widened sidewalks, street trees, and abundant planted areas complement the building.
The Douglas has achieved 100% occupancy since opening.
