Sound Transit U Link – Capitol Hill Light Rail Station

East of Broadway Avenue and South of East John Street

The underground Capitol Hill light rail transit station connects one of the City’s largest urban centers to Downtown. Community desire for direct access and local transit connections as well client plans for transit-oriented development (TOD) influenced the station’s design. The ultimate goal was an iconic design that honors the spirit of the Broadway District. Also building an important link in the regions transportation infrastructure.

Found in the heart of the Broadway commercial district, three unique station entries include plazas to support nearby retail and commercial spaces. The entries direct commuters to and from the station mezzanine and platform. While subterranean passages guide commuters safely across busy Broadway Avenue without affecting street-level transit and vehicle traffic.

Three pieces of public art reside at the station, including Mike Ross‘s sculpture Jet Kiss and two murals by cartoonist Ellen Forney.

Since its opening, light rail ridership has doubled.
